Westernized Feng Shui has greatly promoted the art of Feng Shui and has made Feng Shui much more approachable, but one of the downsides is that it has also made many believe that it can be learnt through few Feng Shui books or several hours’ online courses.

Feng Shui is an ancient study that has accumulated and developed for more than three thousand years. Like every other knowledge, it requires consistent hard learning and a lot of practice. Not all Chinese were born knowing how to practice Feng Shui. Not all Chinese homes are good Feng Shui homes.

Feng Shui for an Empty Lot

For an empty lot, we have more flexibilities to evaluate and plan the usage of space.

Xuan Kong (Flying Star) method provides us tools to locate important areas (entrance, master bedroom and kitchen) under auspicious stars.

In the current Cycle 8 and the upcoming Cycle 9, Star 2 and Star 5 remain inauspicious. 2 is associated with illness. 5 is associated with accidents. Ideally, if bathrooms could be located under 2 and 5, we are able to neutralize the destructive energy. In the case that bathrooms are not feasible, we will then try garages.

One of the reasons that Feng Shui takes time and work is that there are so many aspects that need to be taken into consideration before finalizing the plan. You wouldn't want to avoid one destructive energy but create a completely different new one at the same time - which we have seen quite a lot.

Balancing the Yin and Yang

The Yin and Yang balance of a room varies depending on the actual usage of the room.

Lighting can be an inexpensive way to manage the Yin and Yang. Dimmer switches would be a great solution that allows us to determine how much lighting is needed for one particular space at a particular time.

Exposed lamp cords carry an electrical charge which can be a hazard. They are also a visual Sha Qi that needs to be avoided.
