The traditional Chinese architecture tend to rely on ornaments with auspicious implications for the impressive effect. The ornaments can be inspired by legends, myths or Chinese folk customs etc.
For example, this historical house has a total of 12 swallow tails located neatly on the ridges. Legend has it that in ancient China, it is believed that humans need the blessings of heaven and earth to survive, therefore they respect heaven greatly. The bird on the roof is like an angel – a spiritual creature that can reach heaven and worship Gods. “12” is believed to be an auspicious number.
Feng Shui implementation varies from different cultures and different personal tastes. It is not tied to any styles and certainly not to any objects. In order to truly understand the essence of Feng Shui and practice it well, you first must have pretty good understanding of the culture in which Feng Shui originated. You could then use it as a tool to integrate into your own living environment, not just blindly follow the principles.
